A soap is an episodic dramatic fiction that's presented in a seriel which runs continuous through out the year on television.

Sometimes a soap like Eastenders will leave a cliffhanger right at the beggining or end of a holiday like easter or christmas so that over that period of time; christmas/new year the audience has time to reflect on what's happened and the possiblites of whats to come.

The Stories also resinate for the long time veiwer which could mean more of a reaction to a certain event happening to a specific character, rather than someone that's only watched it for a short amount of time. i.e a women finally getting married after a lifetime of heartache.
